Mr. Right Movie Poster

1. Project Context

Category: Photoshop Composite

Target Audience: Fans of action-comedy films, thriller aesthetics, and cinematic promotional design. The project appeals to audiences drawn to energetic visuals, dark humor, and bold graphic compositions.

Background: This project focused on redesigning the movie poster for Mr. Right (2016), starring Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell. The redesign explores how composition, typography, and visual effects can reshape the tone of an existing film advertisement while

maintaining recognizability.

Software: Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator

2. Design Problems

  • How can a redesigned movie poster create a stronger visual impact than the original design?

  • How can action, comedy, and romance be communicated simultaneously within a single composition?

  • How can typography and graphic elements guide the viewer’s attention effectively?

  • How can visual effects enhance the cinematic tone without overwhelming the layout?

  • How can the design maintain recognizability while still feeling distinct from the original poster?

  • How can the poster system expand across multiple promotional applications while remaining visually cohesive?

3. Design Process & Inspiration

The design process began by analyzing existing action-comedy movie posters and identifying

recurring visual patterns such as bold typography, dramatic contrast, and dynamic imagery.

Inspiration was also drawn from shooting targets, bullet impacts, and noir-inspired color

palettes to reinforce the film’s assassin storyline.

Multiple compositions were explored to balance the relationship between the two main

characters while emphasizing movement and tension throughout the layout. Graphic elements

such as bullet holes and target imagery were layered into the composition to strengthen the

visual narrative.

Typography and color were refined to create a stronger hierarchy and more cohesive branding

system. The final design uses high contrast and simplified color relationships to maintain

clarity while supporting the film’s chaotic and comedic tone.

4. Design Solution

The final design combines bold typography, dramatic contrast, and graphic visual effects to

create a more energetic interpretation of the original Mr. Right poster. A limited red, black, and

white palette reinforces the action-focused atmosphere, while bullet hole textures and target

graphics visually reference the film’s themes of violence and unpredictability.

The composition prioritizes the relationship between the two lead characters while

maintaining a strong visual hierarchy across the poster. Supporting elements such as taglines,

credits, and promotional details were incorporated to create a more authentic cinematic

advertisement.

The project was further expanded into promotional applications including movie tickets, social

media graphics, and webpage concepts. These extensions demonstrate how the visual identity can function consistently across multiple formats and marketing materials.
